Renewable Energy

Nopal Nutrition is a socially responsible company that promotes Regenerative Agriculture and Sustainability. Our mission is to promote the worldwide consumption and cultivation of the nopal Opuntia cactus native to Mexico and its fruits.

Climate change is affecting the economies and lives of people in every country on our planet.

Shifting to a more sustainable economy and transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy are immediate priorities for combating climate change and its effects, such as food insecurity and severe droughts. In this context, our nopal Opuntia plantations will play an important role because they can restore degraded lands, turning infertile and desertic regions into green and productive landscapes that permanently capture CO2 from the air.

Nopal Opuntia plantations capture and store CO2 from the air

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are one of the leading causes of Climate Change and Global Warming. The nopal Opuntia plant is highly efficient at sequestering large volumes of CO2 from the air to store it permanently. New nopal Opuntia plantations established in degraded and unproductive lands of arid and semi-arid regions can help accelerate the decarbonization of our planet while regenerating degraded land and biodiversity.

Nopal Opuntia plantations to generate Renewable Energy

The transition from fossil to renewable energy is an urgent measure to mitigate climate change. Our special nopal Opuntia varieties for bioenergy production can sustainably produce abundant biomass to generate biogas and green electricity uninterruptedly.

Nothing is wasted when generating bioenergy with nopal Opuntia. The sediments or by-products that remain after the biogas generation are used as organic fertilizers to regenerate degraded land.

Earning Carbon Offset Credits by capturing CO2 and generating renewable energy

The nopal Opuntia plant captures CO2 from the air at night to turn it into oxygen during the day with photosynthesis. Unlike a tree plantation or other water-intensive crops, nopal Opuntia plantations start sequestering and storing large amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere only after a few months of being established.

Our nopal Opuntia plantations can earn Carbon Offsets because:

One-hectare plantation (2.47 acres) of nopal Opuntia plants can sequester and permanently store approximately 30 tons of CO2 per year.

A 70-hectare plantation of nopal Opuntia plants with a density of 40,000 plants per hectare can produce enough biomass to generate biogas and 1 MWh of green electricity all year long for 10-15 years with little or no irrigation water.

The Aztec secret of Sustainability and Wellness

Nopal Opuntia is one of the most beneficial crops available worldwide. Our nopal Opuntia plantations will help improve the natural environment by generating renewable energy and removing CO2 from the atmosphere. However, they will also provide other benefits, such as job creation, food security and better living conditions for people in arid and semi-arid areas of our planet suffering from water scarcity and desertification.

Investing in our Carbon Offset projects to achieve Net-Zero Emissions

Nopal Nutrition provides everything necessary to establish nopal Opuntia crops and Biogas plants “All Over the World.” By investing in our nopal Opuntia plantations in Mexico and other countries, companies, governments, and individuals can offset the CO2 emissions and other Greenhouse Gases they produce during their regular production activities.

In addition to obtaining carbon offset credits, investors participating in our nopal Opuntia plantations will benefit from the commercialization of food products, feed for livestock and other value-added products obtained from the nopal Opuntia plantations.

Companies, governments and individuals are welcome to invest in our Carbon Offset projects to transform unproductive, degraded and desertic lands into green and productive landscapes with nopal Opuntia.

Our Strategic Presence in Mexico.

Our nopal Opuntia plantations are located in an important agricultural region of Mexico known as “El Bajío.” This region offers the best conditions to grow nopal Opuntia and is also a strategic global business hub with many logistical advantages.

“El Bajío” is a region of Central Mexico that encompasses several states including Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán, Zacatecas and Querétaro.
